Ten (10) important factors to start the season off right

With football season knocking at the door here are some basic things to remember.

1. First, remember to always think of the children's safty. When you practice make sure the area is clean of glass and rocks.

2. Take the time to get to know the kids and parents. Remember, your life may be going great, but what is going on in the life of that child?

3. Be good to the kids. As a coach, it is your job to get the most out of them, but there is something that bothers me when I see a grown man cursing at a child. Don't do it!

4. Make sure you have plenty of water breaks or have water at every station. Kids must start drinking water days before practice and games.

5. Use smart drills. When you tackle don't have the kids 10 yards apart, keep it close. You are just asking for a shoulder injury!

6. Double check equipment, make sure everything fits.

7. HAVE FUN!!!! If you structure practice to allow for the kids to have a little fun you will be a better team with happy kids. Football is tough enough, if you as the coach will just stop and think about what could make it more fun and safe, I know you will have a good year.

8. Kids- Listen to your coach and try hard to get better every day.

9. Parents- Let the coach do his or her job. They are giving of their time and effort so let them do the job. Watch the coaching from the stands. Even if you don't agree with what the coach is doing, that needs to stay between you and the coach and not involve the kids. STAY POSITIVE!

10. The season is what you make it. Win or not keep the kids first and your all winners.
